Please join us for a substantive lecture by Declan Kiely exploring the printing and literary history of Virginia Woolf's masterpiece Mrs. Dalloway.

Scholar Declan Kiely will examine the creative and commercial liberty that Virginia Woolf found in establishing The Hogarth Press. The talk will guide us through the literary climate, textual history, and authorial biography that gave rise to Mrs. Dalloway and share fresh scholarly insights into Woolf's celebrated novel and distinctive voice.

The talk will be 45 minutes followed by a 15 minute Q&A. A reception will follow in the Arion Press Gallery with Arion Press's centennial edition of Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf on display.


Declan Kiely is the Executive Director of The Grolier Club, a position he has held since July 2024. As a curator his career has focused on special collections and exhibitions at some of the most prestigious research libraries in New York City. Before his current role at The Grolier Club, he served as Director of Special Collections and Exhibitions at the New York Public Library from 2017 to 2024, where he organized and supervised the curation of exhibitions, including the library's first permanent exhibition of its Treasures, and oversaw the acquisition of important books, manuscripts, and archives. Previously, he was the Robert H. Taylor Curator and Department Head of Literary and Historical Manuscripts at The Morgan Library & Museum from 2007 to 2017. Kiely holds a PhD from the University of London, specializing in W.B. Yeats and the Irish literary renaissance, and has published work based on his dissertation. He has also taught classes at London University, New York University, and the Yeats International Summer School in Sligo, Ireland.
