Giedrė Šlekytė, the up-and-coming conductor from Lithuania, kicks the overture into high gear as she takes off on a vigorously triumphant fanfare of heroic brass and woodwinds.
The night continues with Japanese pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii—who has been blind since birth and is affectionately known by his fans as “Nobu”—performing a dramatic and majestic concerto, followed by Beethoven’s revolutionary “Eroica” Symphony.
