Brian Purcell solo show 2025EXPIRED

published: 16 Jan 2025, 3 min read, 'EVENT EXPIRED'

when: 23 - 29 Jan 2025 | venue: The Shop Gallery | cost: Free | address: 112 Glebe Point Rd, Glebe NSW 2037, Australia

'Floodland' is an exhibition where it's always high tide, when the artist struggles to hold the birds, creatures and trees in one place, on one or another canvas.

There's always a danger that they will break the frame and spill out into the gallery, but as Blake says, 'the cistern contains; the fountain overflows'.

Brian Purcell also paints still life and figurative paintings, but is primarily drawn to the wild beaches and flooded forests of Bongil Bongil national park, near his home in Bellingen on NSW's north coast. He’s a featured artist at Bluethumb and has been a finalist in their Art Prizes in 2022-23.

He is also a poet, and during the exhibition will be launching two books: 'Filmworks' and, as editor, '100 Poets' along with other books in the new series from Flying Islands.

For the past three years Brian has been able to concentrate on painting more than any other period in his life, and is looking forward to pushing his comfort zones in a continuing journey through painting. 'Floodland' is his third exhibition at the Shop Gallery.
