when: 09 Sep 2025 | venue: Hollywood Bowl | cost: $13-$166 | address: 2301 Highland Ave, Los Angeles 90068Wynton Marsalis is known for breaking down musical boundaries with his distinct style, advanced thinking, and affinity for experimentation. One of today’s most ambitious composers, he presents a brand-new concerto that showcases the virtuosity of the entire orchestra. Alisa Weilerstein, who plays “as if in a state of near rapture, absorbing every tiny 16th-note bit of the score,” (Los Angeles Times), returns to the Hollywood Bowl for a dazzling performance of Dvořák’s earthy and dynamic cello showpiece. Calling it the ultimate concerto, Weilerstein says, “It has all the structuring and epic sweep of a symphony. It goes from ecstasy to tragedy to pathos. And every time out, there’s something new to discover.”
