when: 15 Oct 2025 | venue: Barnsdall Gallery Theatre | cost: Free | address: 4800 Hollywood Blvd. , Los Angeles 90027Los Angeles City Council District 13, Office of Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martínez, is proud to partner with the Barnsdall Gallery Theatre and Department of Cultural Affairs to present "Lens on Life" – a new monthly film screening series, to be held on the third Wednesday of every month, in the beautiful 300-seat Barnsdall Gallery Theatre.
For this month's screening on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, we will be partnering with DSA-LA's Political Education Committee and the Luis Buñuel Film Institute, to present a screening of Luis Buñuel’s classic 1972 film, The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie.
The film takes a surrealist approach to class analysis, exploring the psyches of a group of sublimely oblivious bourgeoisie dinner-goers through a series of comedic and increasingly absurd episodes.
Following the film, there will be an interactive discussion to explore the film’s themes, many of which relate to our current political landscape.
Reception and Doors Open at 6 pm
Screening at 7 pm
The screening will be preceded by a small reception. In honor of spooky season, surrealist costumes are encouraged, but not required.
