when: 13 October 2024 | venue: The Women’s Library | cost: Free | address: 8-10 Brown Street (behind Newtown Library), Newtown NSW 2042To celebrate this year's International Lesbian Day, The Women's Library invites you to an engaging presentation of the work and life of the late Sydney and Adelaide based artist Frances (Budden) Phoenix (1950-2017).
This presentation, compiled by the artist herself before she died in 2017, is both a moving tribute to the working life of an important Australian artist, and a wonderful expose of feminist and lesbian art in Australia from the early 1970s onwards.
The Women’s Library is a lending library and community space for women. The library houses a vast collection of books and periodicals for, by and about women, which have been donated by members of the public, scholars, writers and publishers. In 2019, The Woman's Library took pleasure in accepting a donation of visual art and feminist theory books from the collection of Frances Phoenix.
Join us from 5pm at The Women's Library for a drink and a nibble, excellent company, and a discussion about the life and work of Frances Phoenix. This is a free event and everyone is welcome.
