when: 04 - 11 Dec 2024 | venue: Online | cost: Free | address: See event description for details on how to connect. The City of Sydney’s Connect Sydney program aims to build the capacity of community and not-for-profit organisations by providing free skills training. Connect Sydney is available to community, not-for-profit, charitable and other purpose-led organisations, join us to learn how to manage events and projects, craft compelling grant submissions, plan strategically and more.
This free training designed for organisations that support and provide services to children, young people, families, and communities experiencing or at risk of vulnerability in the City of Sydney area.
Presented by Youth Disability Advocacy Service (YDAS) professional facilitators with lived experience, this training will help you to better support young people with disability.
This customised session will have a particular focus on intersectionality. It will provide you with the tools and skills to be more accessible and inclusive, while considering multiple interacting influences of a young person's identity.
Participants must commit to both 2-hour online sessions 1-3pm on Wednesday 4 December and Wednesday 11 December.
Over the 2 sessions, you'll learn about:
the impact of assumptions and how to challenge them,
how to ask good questions,
how to understand disability models,
the complexities of disability and language,
intersectional disabled experiences and addressing and minimising barriers,
how to commit to access and inclusion,
how to plan, communicate, deliver and review accessible work
Places are limited to 2 people per organisation and priority is given to eligible sector workers.
YDAS will provide post-training support for all attendees for up to 3 months. This gives you an opportunity to ask follow-up questions to help you implement what you’ve learned, develop access and inclusion action plans, and/or reviewing your existing programs or policies
Registration is essential. Claim your spot now.
We aim to present inclusive and accessible events. If you have any access or communication needs, please contact Vicky Skarlatos, Social Programs Officer, at vskarlatos@cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au or phone 02 9265 9333.
