Marie Curie Book Launch 2025EXPIRED

published: 16 Jan 2025, 3 min read, 'EVENT EXPIRED'

when: 09 Feb 2025 | venue: Polish Club Ashfield | cost: Free | address: 182 Liverpool Rd

Born in Poland into a family of modest means, Marie Curie earned Nobel Prizes in physics and chemistry for her ground-breaking research into radioactivity and radium.

In this fascinating biography, Sydney Srinivas intertwines the science, the scientist and the person. Mother of two young children and bereft by the untimely death of her husband Pierre, Marie fought sorrow, pain and loneliness. Although first snubbed as a foreigner by Parisian society, she was offered France’s greatest honour; her remains are placed in Le Pantheon in Paris. Exceptional photographs and the reproduction of original documents reinforce the reader’s interest in this book.

The author’s pilgrimages to the Marie Curie Museums in Warsaw and Paris bring authenticity and feeling to this compassionate work. The launch of this book in Sydney follows the ones held in Maria Sklodowska Museum, Warsaw, Poland on September 18, 2024, and in the Museum of the Institut Curie, Paris on September 22, 2024, in the presence of distinguished audiences.

Other biographies by Sydney Srinivas include those of scientists, Srinivasa Ramanujan, Albert Einstein, Isaac Newton, and Charles Darwin.

Sydney Srinivas is a retired academic from the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering of the University of Sydney and had a successful career in researching and teaching Computational Fluid Dynamics and Optimisation.

Author Talk will be presented by Sydney Srinivas in English. A Q& A will follow the talk. There will be an opportunity to purchase the book on the day followed by book signing. All proceeds of book sales go towards the charity McGrath Foundation.

Books in both the English and Kannada languages will be available for pre-purchase via the ticket platform for $30 +bf. They will be available for collection at the event on Sunday 9 February.
