Returning by popular demand, this two-session sashiko series led by Sanae Suzuki introduces the foundations of Japanese stitching alongside the art of visible mending.
Designed for both beginners and seasoned textile enthusiasts, it offers a clear path into sashiko, from cultural foundations to practical, sustainable repair.
Under Sanae’s instruction, you’ll explore the history and meaning of sashiko, practice the “unshin” stitching method, and learn the hitomezashi (rice-stitch) pattern. In the mending session, you’ll apply these skills directly to your own garments, transforming wear into intentional design and embracing the Japanese mottainai philosophy of “waste not.”
Perfect for those seeking a quiet, meditative craft or a sustainable alternative to fast fashion, this series empowers participants to reclaim the value of their textiles through creativity and care. Save by registering for both workshops, and experience authentic, culturally grounded training at the heart of Los Angeles’ sashiko community.
Discover how sashiko can calm your mind, strengthen your craft, and reshape your relationship with the things you wear, one stitch at a time.
