when: 25 Aug 2025 | venue: CSUN Art Galleries | address: 18111 Nordhoff St, Northridge 91330(THROUGH NOV. 6, 2025) The Journey is the Destination presents a diverse and multigenerational group of artists who explore different parts of Los Angeles from a range of perspectives and media including: photography, mixed-media pieces, site-specific installations, and sculpture. Their works offer new insights into many unrecognized and under-appreciated parts of Los Angeles, which have been historically neglected based on racial, class, or cultural stereotypes. The exhibition seeks to challenge Western colonial ideas of mapping by placing the power to document and share the history of a place with the individuals who live there versus state-sanctioned agencies. The exhibition artists create living documents of their respective parts of Los Angeles, offering alternative ways to think about and reimagine the city we all call home.
Exhibition Artists: Fía Benitez, Aaron Douglas Estrada, Vincent Hernandez, Erick Medel, Debra Scacco, Pamela Smith Hudson, Marisela Norte.
The exhibition is funded in part by the Mike Curb College of Arts, Media, and Communication; Instructionally Related Activities Committee; and the Arts Council for CSUN.
