The Play Equity Summit is Thursday, April 2, 2026, at the JW Marriot LA LIVE and will be centered on the theme, “Beyond Spectacle: Play Because It Matters.” The biennial Summit is hosted by the LA84 Foundation and the Play Equity Fund—legacies of the 1984 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles—and will explore how to reclaim play and sport for the public good in an era of billion-dollar sports megaevents. 

The Play Equity Summit is a national convening that brings together civic leaders, athletes, sports executives, philanthropy, policymakers and community-based practitioners working in youth development. The Summit will engage with a range of leaders with diverse perspectives to address how major sports events can not only benefit economically, but also deliver lasting benefits for every child and community.

At the Play Equity Summit, attendees will examine clear models of how major sports events have made a positive impact on local communities, including the 1984 Summer Olympics, the 1994 FIFA World Cup and 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Attendees will discover actionable steps to make a difference through sport and play, share innovative solutions, and forge powerful new partnerships. 

The Summit connects the national movement for play equity—those who work to increase access to sport, play and movement for all kids, regardless of their background, family income or zip code—as LA84 and the Play Equity Fund advance play equity to modernize the ideals of Olympism.
