This hands-on workshop will introduce you to the fundamentals of pruning deciduous fruit trees with confidence and intention.
We’ll cover:
The 4 D’s of pruning (Dead, Diseased, Damaged, and Disoriented wood)
Tools of the trade and how to use them properly
How to make clean, correct pruning cuts
When and why to prune different types of fruit trees
The workshop will reference principles from R. Sanford Martin’s classic book How to Prune Fruit Trees, grounding our approach in time-tested orchard practices.
After the instructional portion, participants will have the opportunity to practice pruning directly in the orchard, working with established deciduous fruit trees under guidance.
This workshop is ideal for:
Home gardeners
Beginning and intermediate fruit tree growers
Anyone looking to deepen their understanding of seasonal orchard care
Suggested donation: $10. No one turned away for lack of funds.
No prior pruning experience required. Tools will be provided, though you’re welcome to bring your own.
